WHAT DOES IT INVOLVE?
Obstetric care covers the periods of pregnancy, childbirth, and post-partum to ensure the health of the mother and child. The elements that go into obstetric care vary greatly, depending on the pregnancy's trimester, as well as any unique issues that may develop during gestation. Since we prioritize the health of you and your baby above all else, our team always makes room for same-day pregnancy concerns for any worry or problem you may be experiencing. We also are able to treat gestational diabetes and preeclampsia to ensure that you remain healthy and your baby continues to grow at a comfortable rate. Once it's time for your baby to enter the world, we will work with you to ensure your safety and learn about your birth plan. If your baby is not able to be delivered naturally, we perform emergency cesarean sections, as well as planned C-sections.
High-Risk Obstetric Care
High-risk obstetric care refers to specialized monitoring and care for mothers who are at a higher risk for health complications during pregnancy and birth. Often this includes risks for a preterm or early delivery, low birth weight, or other health issues. Typically, a pregnancy may be labeled high risk if the woman:
Is younger than 17 or older than 35
Was overweight or underweight before becoming pregnant
Is pregnant with multiples (twins, triplets, or more)
Has a health issue (high blood pressure, diabetes, etc.)
Has had problems with previous pregnancies
Has had a child with a birth defect or genetic problem
At Johnson Family Practice Center, we provide full diagnostics and care for high-risk pregnancies to help ensure a safe, healthy, and happy pregnancy and birth.
